L.R.V.Z - Laboratoire de Recherches Vétérinaires et Zootechniques (Chad)
Présentation
Créé en 1949 par la France, le LRVZ a ouvert ses portes en 1952. Il a été géré par L’Institut d’Elevage et de Médecine Vétérinaire des pays Tropicaux (I.E.M.V.T plus récemment le CIRAD-EMVT), jusqu’en 1985, année à laquelle, il a été rétrocédé à l’Etat tchadien et placé sous la tutelle du Ministère de l’Elevage. La santé et la production animales sont ses deux grands domaines de recherche.
L’augmentation de la production en vue d’assurer la sécurité alimentaire de la population et de contribuer à la réduction la pauvreté : une priorité pour le LRVZ
A court terme, les politiques d’élevage mettent l’accent sur le développement les productions à cycle court tels que les porcs, en vue de satisfaire la demande en protéines animales. Une dynamique de développement des élevages porcins s’est mise en place dans la zone soudanienne du pays et autour de N’Djamena. Cet essor est lié à un demande urbaine de plus en plus forte et à l’existence de débouchés vers le Cameroun.

Le LRVZ dans le cadre de divers projets accompagne cette dynamique par des actions de recherche-développement. Les thèmes abordés ont concernés :

Des réflexions concertées sont en cours pour la mise en place d’un réseau sur la filière porcine en Afrique Centrale.
Un ensemble de partenaires extérieurs et locaux
L’équipe de recherche du LRVZ sur la filière porcine a bénéficié d’un financement du Prasac (Pôle régional de recherches appliquées au développement des savanes d’Afrique centrale) pour les actions de recherche-développement menés dans les savanes et d’un fonds compétitif du CORAF pour une étude à N’Djamena et à Bangui.
La Banque mondiale à travers le PSAOP ( Projet d’appui aux services agricoles et aux organisations des producteurs) finance actuellement une étude sur « la dynamique des élevages porcins urbains et périurbains » et une autre sur « le rôle du porc dans lutte contre la pauvreté et l’insécurité alimentaire ». Le thème sur l’utilisation des ressources locales dans l’alimentation des porcs a été soumis à un appel d’offres dans le cadre d’un programme de recherche sur base compétitive du même projet.
