Estimation of post ruminal digestibility of different feedstuffs using pigs as animal model
Can pigs be used as animal model to estimate post-ruminal digestibility of non degradable protein in rumen of several feedstuffs used in ruminants?
Abstract
To determine post-ruminal digestibility (PD) of non degradable protein in rumen (NDPR) of several feedstuffs used commonly in bovines, the mobile nylon bag technique (MNBT) not previously digested was used in pigs. The crude protein disappearance data were analyzed through a random block statistic design using GLM procedure from the statistic software SAS. In previous studies there were similar values of PDNDPR to the experimentally obtained for the used feedstuffs.
The results of this study imply that MNBT using growing pigs as animal model, can be appropriate to estimate post-ruminal digestibility of non degradable protein in rumen of several feedstuffs used in ruminants.
